Mary Jeanne Moore (Plainview)

Mary Jeanne Miller Moore died peacefully at home on January 10 surrounded by family, Psalms, and prayers. Mary Jeanne was born on December 31, 1924 in Lockney, Texas to Joseph Judson Miller and Katherine White Miller of Tennessee, who settled in Floyd County in 1909. The family later moved to Plainview where Mary Jeanne grew up and attended Plainview High School and Wayland Baptist College. After attending Texas Tech, she married aviator Abb Thomas Moore on May 20, 1944. Together they lived in Sweetwater where Tom trained recruits of the Women’s Airforce Service Pilots (WASP). When Tom became a pilot for United Airlines, they moved to Denver, Salt Lake City, and then to San Francisco. In 1949 they moved to Lockney where together they raised their children and successfully farmed for sixty-three years. Mary Jeanne was raised in the Baptist tradition and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Lockney. She taught Mary Martha Sunday School class for many years. She enjoyed playing Bridge and became a Life Master. She was a fan of Texas Tech sports and the Texas Rangers. Pink was Mary Jeanne’s favorite color; everywhere she was pink was sure to appear. Mary Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: James Miller (Plainview), Virginia Batson (Portales, New Mexico), Edgar Miller (Dallas), Katheryne Tye (Kress), and Frances Thompson (Ft. Collins, Colorado). Her beloved son, Gordon, died in 1989. Mary Jeanne is survived by her husband Tom, and six children and their families: Tom and Shelia; Robert and Kathy; Paul and Lisa with Haley, Ryan and Blake; Howard and Mary with Thomas and Caroline; Katheryne and Steve Aufill with Peyton and Kate; and Barbara and Ron Wilt with Brian and David. Funeral arrangements are with Kornerstone Funeral Home in Plainview. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service for Mary Jeanne will be held at First Baptist Church Lockney on Thursday, January 12, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gene Hawkins and the Rev. Jonathan Sullivan presiding. Burial will be at Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service. The grandsons will serve as pall bearers. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be considered to First Baptist Church, Box 446, Lockney, 79241
