Alice Hicks Scarborough

Petersburg, Texas—Alice Hicks Scarborough, 94 of Petersburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Thursday, September 9, 2021. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, September 13, 2021, in the Roaring Springs Cemetery in Roaring Springs, Texas. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia and Plainview.

Alice was born on March 9, 1927, in Dickens, Texas to Alvis and Ethel (Basham) Hicks. Her dad was a Baptist preacher, so her family enjoyed living in many small towns in the Texas panhandle. She graduated from Vega High School and later from Wayland Baptist College. While in college Alice was very active in choir, played women’s basketball and was elected Senior Class Favorite. She married Bob J. Scarborough and they were blessed with 4 children, Linda, Joe Dennis, Julieana and Marcus.

Alice’s passion was teaching. She touched many lives through the years first teaching private kindergarten and then high school English at Petersburg High School where she also directed school plays. She loved to play piano hymns by heart.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter: Linda Powell, two sisters; Marie Stockard and Louise Street and one brother; Claude Hicks.

Family members left to celebrate her life include two sons; Joe and his wife Carol, Marcus and his wife Jamie, one daughter; Julieana Scarborough and Gary Young, her son-in-law; Jud Powell, her grandchildren; Jerod, John Dayvid, Brandon, Jeron, Jacob, Jo Hanna, Amber, Nathan, Courtney, Kathleen, Evan, Laura and Reese and 12 great grandchildren.
