Alma Lee Richards Mote entered into resurrection life with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 27th, 2025 at the age of 83.
Alma was born in Littlefield, TX on January 8, 1942 to Earl and Weria Richards. She grew up in nearby Spade, TX along with her brothers and sisters.
Alma married the love of her life, Joe Don, on May 24th, 1958. Joe was in the army which allowed Alma the opportunity to live in Maryland and Germany as she faithfully supported him as a military wife. Alma often shared sweet memories with family and friends from their time in Germany and in the service.
After Joe’s time in the military, they lived in a few different places before they finally settled down in Plainview, TX. It was in Plainview that Joe started his own business, Mote’s Welding and Construction. Alma faithfully supported Joe, and together, they ran a successful business. Plainview became their permanent home, and they made numerous memories there together over the next fifty plus years.
Alma will be remembered as a hard worker and devoted caregiver. During her younger years as a mom, she was dedicated to raising and taking care of her daughter, Tonya. Tonya was one of the greatest joys in Alma’s life. Alma was always so proud of Tonya. After Tonya married, Alma became a dedicated grandma to Tonya’s three daughters: Erika, Erin, and Elizabeth. She was an active part of their everyday lives, and she played a major role in their growing up. She left an imprint on their lives that will never fade.
Alma had a unique gift for making the world around her a more beautiful place. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed working in her shop and making arts and crafts for her family and friends to enjoy. It was not uncommon to receive a personalized gift from Alma that was made with love and care. She also enjoyed spending time working on puzzles. She could easily complete a 1,000 piece puzzle in a short amount of time.
Alma is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Weria Richards; her brothers Joe and Tom Richards; her husband, Joe Mote; and her daughters, Tammie and Teresa Mote.
She is survived by her daughter, Tonya Bryant, and her husband, Darral of Weatherford, TX; her granddaughter Erika Sims, and her husband, Landon of Slaton, TX; her granddaughter Erin Whedbee, and her husband, Jonathan of Brownsboro, TX; her granddaughter Elizabeth Gonzalez, and her husband, Samuel of Seguin, TX; her sister Wanda Gering of Centerton, Arkansas and her sister, LaVern Whitehead of Wichita, Kansas. She is also survived by countless other special nieces and nephews and dear friends that were like family to her.
Alma will be deeply missed by those who knew her and loved her most, but her legacy of love and faith lives on through her daughter, granddaughters, and seven great grandbabies: Adalyn Claire, Eden Olivia, Brody Hoyt, Jordan Daniel, Sophia Jo, Solomon James, and Charlette Joy.
Her celebration of life graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025 at 10:30 am at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview, TX.
