Our beloved dad, Papa Gene and faithful servant passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. He was 91 years old. Funeral services will be held at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel at 10:30am on Saturday, November 20, 2021. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park. Visitation will be held throughout the day at Kornerstone on Friday, November 19. Alvin Eugene “Gene” Owens was born December 10th, 1929 in Van Alstyne, Texas to Andrew J. and Lear Burnett Owens. He was raised in Western Oklahoma and graduated from Dill City High School in 1947. He took an accounting course at Dragon’s Business College in Wichita Falls, TX. He was in the United States Marine Corp from 1952-1954 and was in Japan with the 3rd Regiment when the Korean Peace Treaty was signed in August of 1953. He received the Korean Service Metal and the United Nation’s Metal. Mr. Owens married Virginia Lee Cox on August 6th, 1955 in Norman, Oklahoma. He worked at Cotton Oil Mills, Cotton Grains and Cotton Seed Companies for 39 years and the last 30 years were spent in Aiken, TX with Paymaster and Cargill. He retired in 1993 and then worked part time for the City of Plainview Credit Union for about 3 years. He was saved at the First Baptist Church in Oklahoma City in 1950 and served church in Tallulah, Louisiana and in his fellow Texas towns in Aiken, Lockney and Plainview. He was a current member of the Parkview Baptist Church. He taught every age group except the nursery at one church or another. He has also been a Sunday School Director, Training Union and Brotherhood Director and also did some preaching while working with the Brotherhood Association. His love for the Lord was contagious and enjoyed sharing his Gospel with all that he encountered. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charles Owens, his loving wife Virginia and one son, David Allen Owens. He is survived by his son Keith Owens; four grandchildren, Brooklyn (Nathan) Simon, Kolton Owens, Valarie Owens and Vanessa Owens; great-grandchildren Bryson Owens and River Simon; his brother, Jim Owens; sister-in-laws, Betty and Phylis Owens and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you honor Gene by making a donation to your favorite charity of choice.
