Anna Januta (Plainview)
Anna Leokadia Januta (née Chomicz) was born on October 26, 1927, in Omelanka, Stydyn, Kostopol, Wotyn, Poland, and peacefully passed away on March 30, 2024, in Plainview, Texas, at the age of 96. Anna was a resilient, compassionate, caring, loving, religious, and hardworking individual.
A holocaust survivor of the concentration camp at Dachau, Anna often spoke of the love she had for the United States and the great joy she experienced when her camp was liberated by the United States Army on May 1st, 1945.
Anna spent most of her working career as a Medical Lab Technician. In addition to working as a Medical Lab Technician, Anna also did the bookkeeping for her husband's business "Mike's Muffler Shop".
Anna faithfully worshipped and often volunteered at Saint Alice Catholic Church in Plainview, Texas.
Anna found joy in giving back to her community and serving others. Anna was a prayer group leader, secular Franciscan, International Concerns Commission chair for the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, President of Church Women United, board member of the Faith In Sharing House (F.I.S.H.), and a founding member of the Hospice of the Plains.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Januta; son Richard Januta; daughter-in-law Deena Januta; her parents; two brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her son Stanley Januta; daughter-in-law Sandra Januta; five grandchildren: Jonathan Januta, David Januta, Justin Januta, Stephen Januta, and Josef Januta, as well as five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Saint Alice Catholic Church in Plainview, Texas. Burial will follow at Plainview Cemetery. A rosary will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview. Contributions in Anna's memory can be made to Catholic Charities of Lubbock.
