Ava Elizabeth Thompson (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas-Ava E. Thompson, 86, passed away on Thursday June 30, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Central Church of Christ in Tulia TX with Mr. Bob Colson, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Ava was born June 8, 1936, in Mangum OK to Guy E. Waldroop and his wife Mary Elizabeth Dieter Waldroop. She grew up working on the farm close to Mangum, OK in Greer County. As a young girl she had a pet hen and a pet pig that followed her everywhere she went on the farm. She somehow managed to get ran-over twice on the farm, once by a manure spreader and secondly by a horse drawn wagon loaded with hay. She was the youngest of her 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Ava married Jack H. Thompson on September 1, 1952, in Mangum, OK. They raised 4 almost perfect boys in Tulia, TX. Ava and Jack would have been married 70 years on September 1, 2022. Ava and Jack were active in the Shirts and Skirts Club Square Dancing Club for over 10 years in Tulia and the surrounding communities. Jack and Ava remained in Tulia where they retired and lived a life enjoying their 19 grandchildren, their son’s and spouses, dominoes, the card game Rook, playing guitars, doing puzzles, and visiting friends and family. In her later years she was an avid fan of the NBA and a faithful jeopardy watcher. Ava was a loving wife and mother. She was friend to all and a truly honorable, gifted, and genuine woman. She was the mom that I wish everyone could have. Never-ending love, inciteful, brutally honest, encouraging, hard-working, humorous and a great cook. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Jack Thompson, and 6 of her siblings, and her daughter-in-law, Ann Thompson. She is survived by her four sons, Mark of Tulia, Brent and Sally of Tulia, Kirk and Sherry of Meade, KS, Tracy and Ann of Amarillo, her brother Raymond Waldroop and wife Margie and her 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Westview Boys Home, 120 W. Broadway St., Hollis, OK 73550, or Central Church of Christ, 300 N. Donley Ave, Tulia, TX 79088 or a charity of your choice.
