Barbara Elizabeth McClurg, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church in Tulia with Rev. Rob Lindley officiating.
Barbara was born October 9, 1934, in Tulia, Texas, to Merle and Myrtle Grantham. She married the love of her life, Buford “Pappy” Weldon McClurg, on May 27, 1953, at their home in Tulia. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and love, sharing many devoted years together.
Barbara was an excellent athlete in her younger years, excelling in basketball and track. She was especially known as a fierce defensive basketball player. She was also known by those who loved her as one of the smartest women they had ever known, always offering wisdom, guidance, and quiet strength to her family and friends.
She loved sewing and spent many treasured hours sewing with her daughter, Misty, and her granddaughter Sterling. Barbara also devoted many years as a 4-H leader, proudly helping guide her children, all of whom earned State Record Book honors through their hard work and her encouragement. Though she was a homemaker, Barbara was so much more. She worked tirelessly alongside her family, helping in the fields with paperwork and even driving tractors when needed. No task was too small when it came to supporting those she loved. Barbara’s kindness touched everyone around her. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or simply be there for someone in need. She deeply loved Pappy and treasured the life and family they built together. Above all else, she dearly loved her grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. Her caring spirit, intelligence, and servant’s heart will be remembered by all who knew her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Buford “Pappy” Weldon McClurg; her parents, Merle and Myrtle Grantham; her grandson, Cole McClurg; and her daughter-in-law, Penny McClurg.
She is survived by her daughters, Misty McClurg and husband Julio De La Garza, and Julie Brantley and husband Steven; her son, Dudley McClurg; her grandsons, Kelton Skinner, Josh McClurg, and Colt Brantley; and her granddaughters, Sterling Skinner and husband Daniel, Stormie McClurg, and Breann Hemingway and husband Daniel.
Barbara will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
