Betty Patton Knowles (Tulia)

Betty Patton Knowles, 92, of Tulia passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 8, 2025 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating.

Betty Patton Knowles was born on April 27, 1933, in Natchez, Mississippi, to Louis and Mazie Lillie (Loper) Boyington. A graduate of Natchez High School in 1951, Betty married Vernon Patton later that same year, in December. Together they welcomed four children: Debra, Russell, Kendall, and Gay, who were proud of her life.

In November 1989, she married Guy Knowles, bringing joy and companionship into her later years. Betty also worked as an apartment manager in Amarillo and held a position at Amburn’s in Tulia, where she took great pride in her work. Above all, she cherished her grandchildren and her great grandchildren, showering them with love and affection throughout her life. Betty devoted over fifty years to teaching Sunday School at Calvary Baptist Church, where she not only shared her wisdom but also created service programs that enriched the church community.

Her warm spirit and unwavering commitment to her family and community will be cherished by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Louis and Mazie Boyington; her husband; Guy Knowles, the father of her children & friend, Vernon Patton; her son, Russell Patton; her daughter-in-law, Carla Patton; her son-in-law, Larry Walden; and two sisters; Lilly Dawson and Annette Waters and her great grandson, Tyler Patton.

She is survived by her children; Debra Walden of Tulia, Kendall Patton and wife Lindsay of Amarillo and Gay Maynard and husband Mark of Tulia; twelve grandchildren, Paul, Holly, Jennifer, Shelby, Brent, Brandon, Jeremy, Carrie, Rusty, Tayla, Chris and Laci; twenty-four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
