B.F. "Smitty" Smith (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Benjamin Franklin “Smitty” Smith, 97, died on Sunday, February 7, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 13, 2021 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will follow in Roe Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

B.F. was born of July 30, 1923 in Merkel. He grew up in Dimmitt and graduated Dimmitt High School in 1941. He joined the US Air Force serving until 1944. He married Bonnie Black on December 18, 1945. They lived a few more years in Dimmitt before moving to Tulia in 1955. He owned and operated Smitty’s, installing and repairing waterlines. He retired at the age of 62 and he and Bonnie traveled across the USA for the next 10-15 years. He was supported of the Halfway House, here in Tulia, also was a member of the Tulia VFW. Smitty loved the USA, thought it was the greatest country in the world. He always looked for the good in everyone he met. He loved his family and loved spending time with them.

He is preceded in death by his parents: John and Bertha Smith, his wife: Bonnie Smith, two brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his son: Scott Smith and wife Glynda of Tulia, his daughter: Evonne Clark and husband Ronnie of Hedrick, Oklahoma, his sister: Joyce Sailors and husband Jimmy of Oklahoma, eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren.
