Billie Rene Carthel Howard ended her 93-year long journey in this life on October 11, 2021. She was born to Cap and Irene Harrison Carthel in Lockney, Texas on August 6th, 1928. After graduating from Lockney High School, she married Harley Howard on June 10th, 1950. Their two children, Bill, and Linda were both born while they were stationed in El Paso, Texas. She and Harley enjoyed a 20-year hitch in the United States Air Force where they got to travel all over the world. They were stationed in Illinois, Texas, Germany, Louisiana and finally Japan. While stationed for 8 years in Louisiana, they both learned to fish and play golf. After Harley retired from the Air Force in 1967, they moved back to this area to start farming. Billie worked at the bank in Lockney and did the farm wife jobs like driving a grain truck, taking food to the field and finished raising Bill and Linda. She and Harley loved to fish and played golf with many friends here in Plainview. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church at Providence. Harley passed away in 2003. Billie kept her home but eventually moved out to West Ridge Manor where she has been a resident for about 7 years.
Billie is survived by her two children, Bill Howard of Lubbock and Linda Marr of Plainview; daughter-in-law Gail Howard of Plainview, and son-in-law Gary Marr of Plainview. She is also survived by her four grandchildren and their spouses, Heather and Kryl Boedeker of Plainview, Coby and Kelli Marr of Canyon, Brady and Jackie Marr of Amarillo, and Alicia Howard Shaw of Frisco; five special great-grandchildren, Brystol Boedeker, Kingston Marr, Corbin Marr, Blakely Marr, and Adisyn Shaw; her brother, Royce Carthel and his wife Foncine and numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks go to the staff at Westridge Manor especially Anna, Ariel, Samantha, Pat, Rosie and Linda. Also, thanks to the caring people at Interim Hospice.
The family suggests memorials can be made in her memory to Shriners Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 16, 2021 in the Lockney Cemetery with Minister Sean McConathy, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church officiating and her son-in-law Gary Marr assisting. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
