Tulia, Texas- Bishop Gilbert Del Toro, 59, passed away in the comfort of his own home on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church with Bishop Michael Kleghorn officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, a prayer service will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021, at 3:00 PM in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel.

Bishop Gilbert was born on December 29, 1961, in Tulia to Guadalupe Del Toro and Maria Cruz Gonzales. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1980. He gave his life to Jesus in 1982. On February 4, 1985, he married Linda Castellon. He started his ministry of preaching and evangelizing in 1986. He started the Church of the Comforter in 2000. After 20 years of ministry, on March 2, 2020, he was ordained as a bishop of the Lubbock/Panhandle District. He enjoyed reading, walking, telling jokes, singing, he loved John Wayne Westerns, he loved horses and rode his first horse on November 6, 2019. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, he loved to work and giving to others in need. He loved to visit the sick and pray for them. He loved plants and gardening. He was proud of his family name (Del Toro). He and Linda renewed their wedding vows on February 7, 2021, after 36 years of marriage. He was a man of integrity and was a hard worker.

Bishop Gilbert was preceded in death by his father, Guadalupe Del Toro.

He is survived by his wife: Linda Del Toro, his mother: Maria Cruz Gonzales, his children:  Adam Del Toro, Matthew and Alisha Del Toro, Gilbert and Gianna Del Toro, Amanda and Arturo Reyna, Jessie Del Toro and Maygin Del Toro, his siblings: Linda and Fidel Trevino, Gloria and Hector Aguirre, Marcelino and Rene Del Toro, John and Linda Perez, Nancy and Joe Gonzales, Miguel and Nancy Del Toro, his grandchildren: Emily Del Toro, Jazlynn Del Toro, Mayci Del Toro, Zolie Reyna, Symphoni Del Toro, Xyavrian Del Toro, Alayna Del Toro, Mason Del Toro, Khaydin Del Toro, Gracelynn Reyna, Kamyla Del Toro, Julian Reyna and Samson Reyna, and one on the way: Melydi CeAnn Del Toro.

Memorials may be given to the Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, Texas 79106.
