Carolyn Evans Carpenter died peacefully in Plainview, TX on May 26, 2025. She lived a full life enjoying her family and friends and serving her Lord. Visitation for family and friends will be at Kornerstone Funeral Directors on Friday, May 30th from 5-7 P.M. The Memorial Service will also be held at Kornerstone on Saturday, May 31st at 11 A.M., officiated by Dr. Travis Hart, with a family burial prior to the Memorial Service at Plainview Memorial Park.
Carolyn was born October 15, 1934, in Canadian, TX to Frank Eugene Evans and Thelma Brian Evans. She grew up in White Deer, Texas. After graduating high school, she attended and graduated from Wayland College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1955.
On June 29, 1956, Carolyn married Philip Gaines Carpenter, Jr. Immediately after they married, they moved to Louisville, KY where Phil was pursuing his Master of Theology Degree at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. They lived in Louisville nine years. In 1965 they moved to Atlanta, GA and then back to Plainview in 1968. They were married 61 years prior to his death in 2017.
Carolyn was a beloved elementary teacher at schools in KY and GA prior to her 31-year tenure of teaching in Plainview. She taught fourth grade at Highland Elementary for 5 years and then spent 26 years teaching third grade at Hillcrest Elementary, which she loved, before retiring in 2001. Following retirement, Carolyn taught for four years in the ARI tutoring program at Thunderbird Elementary. She loved teaching and loved her students.
During Carolyn’s teaching career, she received several nice honors from fellow teachers and PTA officers. One cherished honor came in 1989 when she was nominated by her local PTA as Elementary Teacher of the Year and later endorsed as Teacher of the Year for Area XIV. Carolyn was duly recognized for her ability as a teacher and her love for her students.
Phil and Carolyn had three children, Philip III, Brian and Camille.
While living in Plainview for 57 years, Carolyn was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. Where in her earlier years she was a Sunday School teacher in the children’s department and later was a member of the Carpenter Senior Adult Class.
Carolyn was also a Mary Kay sales representative for 25 years.
She was a member of Chapter BL, P.E.O. and Gamma Delphia Study Club. She also served on the Plainview Community Concert Board of Directors.
She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Her three grandchildren were the delights of her life.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Phil, her sons, Philip and Brian, as well as her sister, Barbara Browning and husband Jeane, in addition to two other sisters, Shirley Kelly and husband Clifton and Nancy White and husband Lonnie, her brother, Brian Ed Evans and his wife Juanita Evans, two brothers-in-law, Frank Carpenter and wife Wanda, John David Carpenter and wife Phyllis, as well as her nephew, Ed Evans.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Camille Northcutt and husband Greg of Plainview and daughter-in-law, Kathy Carpenter of Amarillo. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Caroline and Carson Northcutt of Plainview and Carley Carpenter of Amarillo as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
Carolyn loved and cherished her many friends in the Plainview area.
