Christine was born on June 4, 1931 to a very close-knit family, second of 8 children to Enzo and Nita Johnson Ewing. She attended schools in Tulia and surrounding communities. She married JT Gunnels in August 1947 in Tulia. She worked for many years at the school cafeteria and then she drove a truck and hauled cattle with JT. Later in life she went to work as the Granny at Grandy’s where she enjoyed visiting with everyone that stopped there. Christine was known to many nieces and nephews as Sister or Cricket; her house was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay. She lived in the same house almost 70 years which belonged to her parents before that. She loved having family reunions. She had the biggest heart for anyone she met and always saw the best in everyone. She loved her family, especially her grandkids, great grandkids and her only great, great granddaughter. The moment you met her you knew you were always welcomed with open arms and like part of the family. The moment you walked through the door you saw the smile on her face from the excitement of anyone’s presence, and she would put the coffee pot on. Nanny loved to have company, she loved being around friends and family, she just loved life!
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Nita Ewing; her husband, JT; her daughter, Judy Love and 5 of her siblings and her special aunt, friend, Louise Dallas.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Connally and husband Doug of Amarillo; her son, Jackie Gunnels and wife Brenda of Tulia; her son-in-law, Danny Love, Sr of Canyon; her siblings, Melba White of Tulia and Vickie Bowers of Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Ewing of Claude her grandchildren, Tricia Speed and husband Shane of Tulia, Cody Davis of Tulia, Danny Love, Jr. and wife Regina of Amarillo, James Love and wife Jami of Canyon, Brent Gunnels and wife Annette of Amarillo, Jay Gunnels and wife Jocelyn of San Antonio, her great grandchildren- JT, Carissa, Natalie, Nick, Mattie, Everly, Lincoln and Ayla and her great, great grandchild, Embrie and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Memorials may be made to BSA Hospice of the Southwest, 5211 SW 9th Ave Suite 100, Amarillo, TX 79106.
