Consuelo Trevino Perez was born February 26, 1934, in Sonora, Texas, to Carlos Trevino and Consuelo Martinez Trevino. She was called to her eternal home on April 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.
At a young age, her family migrated to seasonal jobs in different states, so schooling opportunities were limited, but that didn’t prevent her from teaching herself many skills. Among those skills were sewing, cooking, baking, quilting, and crocheting. In the third grade, she met a young man named Jose C. Perez. Little did she know this young man would go on to be the love of her life. On February 9, 1952, she married Jose C. Perez in Sonora, Texas. After a short stay in Sonora, they relocated to Plainview, Texas, where they began raising their family.
Jose and Consuelo had 4 girls and 2 boys, and although money was limited, they always found a way to make ends meet. Consuelo taught herself to sew and became an accomplished seamstress, oftentimes sewing for the public. She was also an accomplished cook and baker. Most notably, her German chocolate cake, Italian crème cake, and carrot cakes were second to none. She delighted in preparing family meals for all her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren, as her most cherished times were when her entire family gathered at her house for food and fellowship. Along with her many talents, she was also a cancer survivor. She battled breast cancer in 1995, and although the treatments were difficult, she persevered and beat cancer. She would praise God for carrying her through that valley, allowing her to enjoy many years with her grandchildren. “Mema,” as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren, took great pride in sharing her talents with them. You could often find her in the kitchen with them, explaining how to make cookies, cakes, tortillas, carne guisada, empanadas, pies, etc. Her most memorable times in the kitchen allowed for gathering with her family around Christmas to make Tamales. Aside from cooking, she also spent time showing her grandchildren basic sewing. She lovingly handmade quilts and Afghans for all and presented each of her grandchildren with the work of her hands.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Jose C. Perez, and one son-in-law, Mike Salazar. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sonia Morales (Mike) of Spring, Texas; Ida Rascon (Daniel); Anna Salazar; and Patricia Saucedo, all of Plainview, Texas. Two sons, John (Gina) of Plainview, Texas, and Mark (Silvia) of Canyon, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Although her presence on this earth will be greatly missed by her family, we are deeply grateful to God for the many years of life he blessed her with, for the many lessons she taught us, and for the examples she set for us. Her spirit will live on in those whose lives she touched.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and caregivers of Westridge Manor
