Corky Fullingim-Assiter (Plainview)

Corky Fullingim-Assiter (Plainview)

Norma Louise Fullingim-Assiter was called home to heaven on March 16, 2026. Born on May 15, 1935 to Rufus Benjamin and Lois Naomi (née Smith) Martin. She was the eighth of nine siblings and was lovingly referred to as Corky, a nickname given to her by her father.

Corky was raised in Petersburg, TX, where she attended school and was a member of the First Methodist Church. She was an active student, who excelled in academics, athletics, and the arts. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class.

Corky married her high school sweetheart, Robert Louie Fullingim, on June 2, 1954, and the couple established both their home and family farm in Petersburg, which is still in operation. It was here where Robert and Corky raised three sons–Robert Bryan, Samuel Mark, and Douglas Gene–who were the joy of her life. The family became and remain dedicated members of the First Baptist Church of Petersburg.

Above all, Corky was a faithful servant of the Lord. She was a steadfast leader of Royal Ambassadors, taught Sunday School, chaperoned youth groups, and taught at Plains Baptist Assembly. Her unwavering devotion to the Word was the foundation of her life, and she found great joy in sharing her faith with others.

Corky was a pillar of her community–an accomplished entrepreneur, a devoted steward and beloved friend. She established an antique and interior design store–Corky’s–that served the Petersburg community for over 20 years. She was also a Certified Emergency Medical Technician for Petersburg EMS. She and her family welcomed numerous foreign exchange students into their home and hosted countless bridal and baby showers, birthday parties, and celebratory events for her beloved community.

After Robert’s passing in 1996, Corky married Teddy “Ted” Assiter in 2000. The couple spent two decades traveling, serving their community, and sharing the love of Jesus through the Kairos Prison Ministry.

Corky was known by many names, but “Grancy” was the one she cherished most. She embraced her role as grandmother with both devotion and grace, considering it one of life’s greatest honors. For many years, she poured her heart into each of her grandchildren — guiding, teaching, and loving them deeply.

Her legacy is one of unwavering faith, love, and service. The seeds she planted in her family, church, and community will undoubtedly continue to flourish for generations. Her greatest gift to all who knew her was her unwavering faith in Christ, and it is an honor to carry forward the legacy she lived so devotedly.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her eight siblings, her first husband, Robert Fullingim, her second husband, Teddy Assiter, and her great granddaughter, Brylen Rasco. Corky is survived by her sons, Bryan Fullingim and his wife, Trina, of Petersburg, Samuel Mark Fullingim of Buffalo Springs, and Doug Fullingim and wife, Sherri, of Lubbock; her eight grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as “Grancy,” Courtney Kattner and husband, Collin; Aaron Klingensmith and husband, Casey; Austin Fullingim and wife, Joanna; Brittney Rasco and husband, Brady; Allison Bryson and husband, Josh; Haley Fullingim, Lindsey Burns and husband, Matt, and Riley Fullingim, her niece, Maria “Chubs” Martin, and her nephew, Shea Martin, and ten great-grandchildren, Cameron, Caylee, Brecken, Carsyn, Evie, Braelyn, Ella, Ellis, Emmy, and Ryker; and her many other relatives and friends.

The visitation is scheduled from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on March 21st, followed by the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Petersburg. Arrangements have been made by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to New Legacy Home for Women, P.O. Box 53904, Lubbock, Texas 79453.
