Curtis Teddy Day Sr. (Tulia)

Curtis Teddy Day Sr., born April 1, 1939, in Dickens County, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 6th at his daughter’s home in Prosper, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, August 17, 2026, at the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit with burial following at Rose Hill Cemetery. A come and go visitation will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 1:00P.M.- 5:00P.M. Services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia

Curtis was one of nine children, growing up on the family farm where hard work, responsibility, and loyalty were learned early and lived daily. Working alongside his parents and siblings shaped the steady, dependable man he would become.

After leaving the farm, Curtis enlisted in the United States Army. He served part of his enlistment overseas in Korea, and later while stationed in El Paso, Texas, he met the love of his life, Martha Gomez. Curtis and Martha built a marriage that lasted 65 years — a partnership defined by devotion, resilience, and the joy of raising three children together.

Following his military service, Curtis began his career as a lineman, living in several states as he worked to support his growing family. Eventually, he settled in Tulia, Texas, where he joined Mid Plains Telephone. Curtis worked there for more than 35 years, becoming a trusted and respected figure in the company and the community before retiring in 2001.

Curtis’s life was never just about work — it was about people. He spent many years coaching youth baseball and boxing, pouring his time, energy, and heart into the boys he mentored. He believed sports could teach discipline, confidence, and character, and he made sure every boy who stepped into his dugout or his gym felt valued. Decades later, those same boys — now grown men — continued to stop by to visit Curtis and Martha. They knew they would always find a warm welcome, a listening ear, and a plate of wonderful food waiting for them. Those visits were a testament to the impact Curtis made, one young life at a time.

Curtis is survived by his sons, Curtis Teddy Day Jr. of Amarillo, Texas, and Mitch Day of Post, Texas, and his daughter Marie Mervicker of Prosper, Texas. Also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. His legacy lives on in his children, in the countless young people he coached, and in every person who was strengthened by his kindness, humor, and unwavering steadiness.
