David Finch, Sr., 86, of Tulia passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 4, 2025 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Scott Keener officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, August 3, 2025 at the funeral home.
David was born on January 6, 1939, in Tulia, the son of Jesse and Annie (Mayfield) Finch. He forged a lifelong bond with high school sweetheart Barbara Thornton, as they both participated in the FFA Rodeo, with David serving as Rodeo Chairman and Barbara as Rodeo Treasurer. After graduating from Tulia High School in 1959, he and Barbara married on January 19, 1960, beginning a partnership that spanned over six decades, filled with love, hard work, and dedication. A passionate farmer and rancher, David began his career in agriculture at the age of eighteen and continued until he was fifty-six. He was a founding member of the Swisher County Actives Association and served as the stock show chairman for several years. A devoted 4H leader for forty years, David was enthusiastic about fostering the next generation of agriculturalists. He was proud to be the sponsor of the first-year exhibitor buckle at the Swisher County Livestock Show, leaving behind a legacy of commitment to the community. David was known for his tireless work ethic and determination, often saying he could not sit still. After retiring from farming, he took on the role of adjuster at Rain and Hail Crop Insurance, where his dedication continued.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Annie Finch, his brother, Charles Finch and his sister, Carmen Messing.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Finch of Tulia, TX.,; his three sons, Danny Joe Finch of Tulia, TX., David Christopher Finch, Jr. and wife Tonya of Canyon, TX., and Paul Dee Finch and wife Linda of Canyon, TX., ; his six grandchildren, Lyndi Marks of Abilene, TX., David Christopher Finch III and wife Kayla of Meridian TX,, Bronc Finch and Kiley of Little Rock AR., Whitney Jo Parum and husband Dusty of Robinson, TX., Zac Finch and wife Lynne of Wichita, KS., and Kaci Finch and fiancé Peyton Hill of Garden City, KS., and six great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the David Finch Scholarship Swisher County 4H, 627 Canyon Parkway, Canyon, Texas 79015.
