Debbie McCoy Johnson, 72 passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 25, 2023 in the First Baptist Church with Reverend John Gillespie officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Debbie was born on July 1, 1951, in Amarillo, Texas to Roy and Louie McCoy. She grew up in Tulia, Texas and attended Tulia High School where she served as the girls’ basketball manager until graduation in 1970. She married Jim Johnson on November 9, 1970, and together they had 3 children. She was an active member of the Calvary Baptist church and choir. Debbie enjoyed working with the youth of Tulia, serving as a teacher's aide at Friendly Frog Play School as well as being the Director of the Tulia Girl Scouts for many years. She was instrumental in coordinating the Girl Scout Day Camps that were held annually. Most Friday nights she could be found in the football concession stand as a proud band parent. Debbie and her husband Jim were co- owners of Airway Plumbing and the Highland R.V. Park. She is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Louie McCoy and her son Jerry Alan Johnson. She is survived by her husband James Johnson of Tulia. Two daughters, Melissa Gregory and husband Damon of Tulia, and Carrie Ramos and husband Nicholas of Tulia. Two sisters Sandra Schulz and husband Bob of El Paso and Carolyn Singer and husband Randy of Tulia. She had 8 Grandchildren, Lane Gaither, Ryan Gaither, Serenitie Perez, Brennen Perez, Aaron Ramos, Kylee Ramos, Kloee Ramos, and Ryleigh Gregory Memorials can be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW or the American Cancer Society.
