Don L. Childress, Sr. (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Donald Lee Childress, Sr., 88, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022, at 2:00 pm in the Central Church of Christ with Mr. Tim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

Donald Lee was born on January 22, 1934, to Alfred “Dutch” and Mildred Childress in Tulia, Texas. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1952. He enlisted in the US Marine Corp. and served from 1960 to 1963 retired as a Corporal and was the Platoon Radio Operator. He married Florence Pearl Lewis on April 11, 1964.

He retired from Vought Aircraft in 1996 where he worked on the Vought F4U Corsair American fighter aircraft. After he retired from Vought, he started driving a truck until he was 82. He was well loved by his family, friends, and co-workers.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister: Geneva McCallie.

He is survived by his children: Donald Lee Childress, Jr. and wife Danielle, Johnny Childress, two daughters: Lorraine Childress and Susan Childress and husband Damien, his grandchildren: Jacob Childress, Wesley Farwell and wife Tania, Jacqueline Farwell, Grant Childress, Amber Childress, Toby Childress, and Caitlin Kelly and his great grandchildren: Lukas Childress, Lila Childress, Zack Given, Creed Bice, Arianna Farwell, and Justin Aure.
