Dorcas Evelyn Weatherred (Plainview)

Dorcas Evelyn Rhoades Weatherred, 87, of Plainview passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023 in Lubbock. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 4, 2023 in the Plainview Memorial Park with Rev. Russ Panzer officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 P.M. on Friday evening, March 3rd in the Kornerstone Chapel. Dorcas was born on April 8, 1935 to C.B. and Beulah Hamilton Rhoades. She attended White Deer High School and graduated from Canyon High School. While a student at the Texas Women’s University, she met Harrell Weatherred, whom she married on December 21, 1957 in Panhandle, Texas. Mrs. Weatherred was a life-long student and educator, teaching for Plainview ISD for 49 years before retiring, and then teaching and leading another 15 years at the Calico Caboose, First United Methodist Church in Plainview. She was a gifted teacher, dedicated to ensuring each child would be equipped with reading skills necessary for future academic accomplishment and lifetime success. She loved her Lord, and she loved people, especially her family, friends, and the many children she taught during her teaching career. Mrs. Weatherred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harrell Weatherred; two sons, Gregory Weatherred and Paul Weatherred; two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and DeAnn Weatherred of Midland; grandson, Jordan Weatherred and wife Corryn of Plano; granddaughter, Lindsey Weatherred of Midland; and great grandsons, Kai, Korbyn, and Max Weatherred of Midland.
