Edgar Earle McDonough Sr. (Plainview)

Edger Earle McDonough Sr., 91, of Plainview died Jan. 23, 2026, in Covenant Hospital Plainview following an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at Trinity Life Church in Plainview with Linden Morris and Lonny Hooten officiating. Visitation with family will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview. At his request, the body has been donated to the Texas Tech School of Medicine.

Earle McDonough was born July 3, 1934, on a farm 7 ½ miles north of Petersburg in Hale County. He was the youngest of six children born to John Franklin and Minnie Saunders McDonough.

He attended school at Petersburg and graduated from high school there in 1952. He had helped on the farm as a youth and continued until he entered military service on Dec. 9, 1956. A member of the U.S. Army, he was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and was an instructor of Range and Rifle and Head of Assembly Site Supply.

He married Alice Faye Martin of Hobbs, New Mexico, in El Paso on May 9, 1958, while still in the service. He was discharged from the Army on Dec. 10, 1958, and Earle and Faye moved to Plainview where they made their home for the rest of his life.

Earle was a building contractor and was given the Craftsmanship Award by the Lubbock Chapter of American Architects in 1969. He worked with brothers John and Clifton until 1972 when he became an independent contractor. In September 1983, he became the Director of Construction for Plains Projects in Lubbock, covering a wide territory across Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. In February 1985, he returned to private construction business in Plainview where he was happiest.

Earle was a cubmaster for the Boy Scouts in Plainview from 1968-1975 and was active in city politics. He served on local and district committees and was a longtime member of the Plainview Fire Code Board of Appeals; was active in several bond elections; and was treasurer of the Plainview Property Owners Association in 1981. He was elected Hale County Commissioner for Precinct 1 in 1996 and served until 2000.

He also served as a Church of Christ minister for almost 70 years, preaching at numerous rural congregations throughout West Texas, and served as an elder for many years at the West College and Third Church of Christ in Lockney.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Charles Clifton McDonough; three sisters, Juanita Rasco, Dorothy Burkert and Virginia Hoggins; and his son, Edgar Earle (Eddie) McDonough Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Alice Faye; two daughters, Stephanie and husband Arlen Evans of Plainview, and Lisa and husband Ed Frey of Mississippi; six grandchildren, Lonnie and wife Kaycee Evans, Jessica Evans, Logan and wife Chloe Evans, Kendra Hart, Jerilyn Frey and Ronit Frey; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
