Edith Sims, 82 of Plainview passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at her home after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Edith was born on August 10, 1943 in Plainview, Texas to Joseph Allen & Ruby Nell Gough Hatch. She married Richard Sims on November 21, 1962 in Plainview, Texas. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2011. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Plainview.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Jones and husband, Jon, of Floydada, and Tracy Johnson of Lubbock, two sisters including her identical twin, Edna Cochran Heflin, of Plainview, and Julia Hollis and husband, Richard, of Clarendon. Edith is also survived by her three grandchildren, Abby King, Eric Johnson, and Marc Johnson, all of Lubbock, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard "Smokey" Sims; her siblings, Ruby Nell Hatch, Joe Hatch, Jimmy Hatch, Howard Hatch, Grace Marie Collins, Daisy Langford and Harley Hatch.
Edith found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether she was trying her luck at the slot machines, enjoying a good game of gin rummy, or settling in to watch her favorite true crime and mystery shows. She enjoyed keeping up with family and friends on Facebook and never missed an opportunity to stay connected with those she cared about. Above all, she cherished spending time with her twin, her children, grandchildren and family. Her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by the people she loved. Her faith in the Lord Jesus was a guiding light throughout her life, providing her strength, comfort, and peace.
Memorials may be made in her memory to the Missions Ministry at First Baptist Church, Plainview, or to Gideons International.
