Elaiza Velen Benavidez

Elaiza Velen Benavidez, 52, of Tulia passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Central Church of Christ. Services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

Elaiza was the cherished daughter of Guadalupe and Ermenia (Pacheco) Benavidez. After graduating from Tulia High School in 1992, she pursued her education at Clarendon College, obtaining her associate’s degree. Her strong work ethic was evident in her roles as a manager at Dairy Queen and Allsup's, where she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her responsibilities.

Elaiza had a soulful passion for music and would often find joy in listening to her favorite songs while tidying up her home, creating an atmosphere of warmth and love. A voracious reader, she delighted in the literary worlds that enriched her life. But what truly defined Elaiza was her generous spirit; her big heart was always open to helping others in need, and she brought laughter and joy to those around her, particularly her children.

Elaiza's playful nature and sense of humor provided countless cherished moments with her family, as she created lasting memories and deep connections. Her love for her children was unparalleled, and the time spent together will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

She is preceded in death by her father, Guadalupe Benavidez, her infant son, James, Jr. Alvarez.

She is survived by her children, Jamie Alvarez and fiancé Nicole Shackleford and Erica Alvarez; her mother Ermenia Benavidez; her brothers and sisters, Dolores Vela and husband Leonel, Refugio Benavidez and wife Kathy, Joann Salazar and husband John, Angie Briones, Guadalupe Benavidez and wife Melisa, Victoria Gonzales and husband Richard, Rachel Benavidez, Amelio Benavidez and Merejilda Maldonado and husband Steven.
