Elvira Gonzales Leal (Plainview)

Elvira Gonzales Leal was born June 14, 1935 to Felipe and Enedina Gonzales in Cameron, Texas. She passed away peacefully as her children, granddaughters, and nieces prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet on January 24, 2025.

A rosary will be recited from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, January 29, 2026 in the Kornerstone Chapel.

A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 30, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Petersburg, Tx officitaed by Rev. Josekutty Thomas Kadanthott. There will be no burial following the services. 

She married Guadalupe Leal on January 12, 1963 in Floydada, Texas.

Together they built a life and raised their family in Petersburg, Texas. Elvira was always a hard worker and was a dedicated employee of Cargil meat solutions in Plainview. She worked there for 26 years before retiring 1999.

After retirement, she enjoyed tending to her home and watering her plants on her front porch. She loved spending time with her family, including children and granddaughters. She was a devoted wife and lived out her wedding vows by caring for her husband in the last years before his passing. She also was a dedicated mother and cared for son, Daniel Leal as his health declined in recent years. She always put her family first and lived out her Catholic faith by serving others.

She is survived by her son Danny Leal of Plainview, daughter Lisa Leal-Sanchez and her husband Emitero Sanchez of Petersburg, and son Roberto Leal of Petersburg. She leaves behind two granddaughters Ashley Esqueda and her husband Jeremy Esqueda of Lubbock, Brianna Sanchez of New York City and a cherished great-grandson Behren Esqueda.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Leal, her siblings: Hortencia Torrez, Jack Gonzales, and Roman Gonzales.
