Emma Castillo (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas, Emma Castillo, 77, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021, in Tulia. A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 3:00 PM at the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit with Father David Contreras officiating with burial following at Rose Hill Cemetery. Funeral services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

A rosary will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 5:30 to 7:30 PM in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel.

Emma was born on March 6, 1944, in Mission, Texas to Paz and Dolores (Temilloso) Gonzales Sr. She was raised in Tulia and has lived here all her life. She married Damasus “Sonny” Castillo Sr. on February 19, 1972. She worked in housekeeping for many years. Emma will be remembered by her glamourous and fashionable style, dancing with Sonny, her famous Mexican Grito yell and cooking her refried beans for everyone. Los Huracanes Del Norte was one of her favorite bands and El Camino was one of her favorite places to eat, especially the Chile Relleno plate. She was a Guadalupana and a member of the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Paz and Dolores Gonzales, Sr., her siblings; Ester Martinez, Eva Perez, Edna Garza, Mary Lou Chapa, Martha Isaguirre and Guadalupe Casanova.

She is survived by her husband; Damasus “Sonny” Castillo Sr.  of Tulia, her children; Danny Casias of Lubbock, Brenda Oliva and husband Francisco of Amarillo, Ernesto Casias of Abilene and Damasus “Birdie” Jr. and wife Hope stationed in Puerto Rico, her brothers; Tino Gonzales of Big Springs, Paz Gonzales Jr. of Tulia, Ramiro Gonzales of Elsa, Ruben Gonzales of Tulia, one sister; Oralia Huron of Tulia, ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and nine great – great grandchildren.
