Freddie Neal Edwards, 81, of Petersburg passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

A visitation will be held at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview on Sunday, March 1st , 5:00-7:00. Graveside services will follow on Monday, March 2nd at the Silverton cemetery at 1:00 with visitation to follow at First Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Born on May 1, 1944, in San Diego, California, he was the first-born son of the late R.A. (Eddie) Edwards and Wiletta Edwards Ritter. Freddie grew up in Silverton and was a graduate of Silverton High School. He attended West Texas State University. He was a partner at Silverton Auto Parts for over 20 years before beginning a 20+ year career with the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice in Amarillo and Plainview. On June 28, 2008, he married Jan Matthews of Petersburg where he resided until his death. Everyone who knew Freddie enjoyed his easy-going nature and his sense of humor. He always made a friend wherever he went. He loved the outdoors and any outdoor activities. He was always ready to go somewhere and find a new adventure. Some of his favorite activities were riding horseback and roping, snow skiing, hunting, fishing, and water skiing. He taught his children to love all of these, as well, and found great joy when they were doing them together. In later years, he and Jan loved travelling with their RV all over the country and had a wonderful time seeing new sites and meeting new people. He especially loved being in the mountains. He was a born cowboy and had many wonderful memories growing up with his two younger brothers. They had the best stories to tell of their adventures as kids. The Edwards boys were legendary, and their antics sure made for great laughs for their kids at family gatherings. His greatest joy was doing things with his kids and grandkids and following them in all their sports and activities. He was the very best Daddy, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa to them all.

Freddie is survived by his loving wife, Jan, of Petersburg, his children, Tammi and Wesley Stafford of Sweetwater, Neal and Julie Edwards of Turkey, Pamela and Gary Parkman of Petersburg and Ted and Stephanie Matthews of Petersburg. He also is survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren Connor Stafford and fiancé Kalie Pietsch, of Mansfield. Caden and Sydney Edwards of Amarillo and their children Jett and Harper. Collin Stafford of Midland. Jaxon and Hannah Edwards of Amarillo and Laney Edwards of Amarillo. Madison and Chris Clemens of Ropes and their children Kali, Carson, Brooklyn, Piper and Quinn. Garrett and Myriah Darling of Conway, Arkansas and their children Benjamin and Wesley. and Presley Matthews of Dallas. Also surviving Freddie are a sister-in-law, Janet Edwards of Abernathy and several nieces and nephews.

Freddie was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gary Edwards and Tommy Edwards; two nephews Darren Edwards and Jody Edwards.
