A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 3, 2024 in the Kornerstone Chapel. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
Gayle was born December 11, 1931 in Franklin, Kentucky to Charles and Mary Fry. Her father worked in the pipeline construction industry for many years so Gayle grew up in many towns and attended many different schools. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1950 and married Darrell Turner on July 1, 1951 in Amarillo. Once again, Gayle lived in many different places because Darrell served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed around the country. After four years in the Navy, they lived in Lubbock, Albuquerque, Rogers, Arkansas, Muleshoe and the last 30 years in Plainview. Gayle served as the church secretary for the First Baptist Church in Muleshoe for 24 years. After moving to Plainview, she worked part-time for the First Baptist Church where she also was a member. Gayle also spent many hours volunteering with the Faith In Sharing House (F.I.S.H.) outreach ministry that helps fight hunger throughout Hale County.
Gayle was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bill Fry.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Darrell Turner; three children, Keith Turner and wife Linda of Weslaco, Texas, Jacque Boutell and husband Tom of Muleshoe, Cindy Scott and husband Phil of Cocoa, Florida; two brothers, Max Fry of Parker, Colorado and Jim Fry of Amarillo. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials in Gayle's memory to F.I.S.H., 504 Joliet St., Plainview, TX 79072 or the St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
