Georgia Daffern (Plainview)

Georgia Elizabeth Cox Daffern died April 17, 2021 at Westridge Manor where she resided for ten years. She was the ninth of twelve children born to Bradford Lewis and Georgia Nola Cox on July 25, 1924. Growing up on a farm east of Plainview she attended East Mound School where she enjoyed playing basketball. As the first Cox child to finish high school, Georgia graduated from Plainview High School in 1941. Afterwards she completed her business courses at Lippert’s Business College in Plainview, and worked as a bookkeeper during WWII. After the war, she married Roy H. Daffern on September 26, 1945. Together they owned and operated Daffern Steel and Supply where she worked as the bookkeeper. Her days were filled with caring for her five daughters, teaching Sunday school to young mothers and leading mission activities for young girls.

Georgia was a lady of many talents. Everyone who knew her was touched by her gracious hospitality. Many friends and family enjoyed her delicious cooking. As a talented seamstress she sewed most all of her daughters’ clothes. She was sure her sewing machine had a million miles on it.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy, her parents, five brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by one sister, Chrystelle Mitchell of Plainview; her five daughters and their spouses, Gwen and Fred Willis of Plainview, Linda and Jay Waggoner of Fort Worth, Elaine Graves of Lubbock, Pat and Blaine Smith of Greenville and Doctor Pam Daffern and Joanne Cooper of Albuquerque, NM; her exchange student son, Roberto Cherchi of Cagliari, Italy; her grandchildren Kathi Calvert, Chris Willis, Amy Flickinger, Daniel Waggoner, Jason Graves, Jeffery Graves, Johnathon Graves, Erin Galyean, Jeana Grimes, Patrick Smith, Andrew Daffern and Sara Cooper; her thirteen great grandsons; her eight great granddaughters and more than fifty nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday April 24, 2021 in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church with Dr. Fred Meeks officiating. Interment will follow in the Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

The family requested that those in attendance wear a mask and practice social distancing.
