Glorioustean “Gloria” Veals, 74, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Friday, August 18, 2023, in Tulia, TX. A Memorial service was held on August 23, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Tyson Willis officiating. Services were under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
Gloria was born on May 30, 1949, in Liberty, MS, to Charlie and Gracie (Powell) Faust. She graduated from Central High School and attended Prentiss Junior College in Prentiss, MS. After receiving her certificate in Education, she moved to New Orleans and met the love of her life, Matthew Veals. They got married in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 15, 1971, and later started a family. They moved to Houston, TX in 1975 and she worked as a seamstress and then in the radiology department at Methodist Hospital. In 1980 the family moved to Tulia, TX, and she worked in retail at Winns, Perry’s and Alco. Gloria’s last job was working at the Panhandle Transit for 15 years until her retirement. She served faithfully in the youth outreach program, City Church, and cooked many meals for the children. Gloria loved to sew for her friends and had a big heart to help anyone in need.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Veals of Tulia, her daughter, Mecca Perkins and husband Greg of Waco, Texas, her son, Albert Knighten and wife Monica of Baton Rouge, LA, her brothers, Arthur Ben Faust (Lazondra) of Houston, Charlie E. Faust (Patricia) of Oxnord, CA, Charlie Faust, Jr. (Becky) of Liberty, MS, Roscoe Faust (Toni) of Houston, her sisters, Betty Faust of Kenner, LA, Rita Davis of New Orleans, LA, Yelva Washington (Michael) of Glenburnie, MD, and Cephus Winding of Liberty, MS. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie, and Gracie Faust; her sisters, Dorothy Hunt and Hattie Rose Faust; and brother, George Faust.
Special thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses and to those from the church and community that provided invaluable care to Mom during her time of illness.
