Helen Fay McQuien (Plainview)

Helen McQuien, 100, of Plainview passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. Helen was born on September 15, 1920 to H.B. and Maggie Kennedy in Post, TX. She married John McQuien on May 25, 1940.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her children, Larry McQuien and Nelda Laney; and her siblings, Pete Kennedy, Zelda Karpe, Edna McLendon and Katherine Rankin.

She is survived by her son-in-law, James E. “Pete” Laney of Hale Center, daughter-in-law, Carol McQuien of Fort Worth; grandchildren, KaLyn Laney of Austin, Jamey and Ronald Phillips of Lubbock, J Pete and Melonie Laney of Austin, John and Kendall McQuien of Houston, Scott McQuien of Fort Worth; seven great grandchildren, Austin, Grant, Gavin and Holden Phillips, Clayton and Kendall Laney and Carter McQuien.

A homemaker and avid golfer, Helen won many golf tournaments and was a competitive player well into her 80’s. In her later years, she enjoyed working in her yard, dancing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. 

A longtime Plainview resident, in 2016 Helen moved to in Lubbock to be closer to grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  There, she enjoyed visiting with friends, Friday night dances and rediscovered her love for bridge. 

A private family service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview, Texas. Services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Plainview Seniors Citizens Center, 1107 Smyth, Plainview, TX 79072 or The Rainbow Room, 700 W 11th St. in Plainview.
