Janet Wright (Tulia)

November 14, 1948 — May 3, 2021

Janet Wright (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas--Janet Miller Wright was born to eternal life on May 3, 2021 surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. Born to Paul and Lula Marjorie Miller on November 14, 1948, she lived her entire life in Swisher County, great-granddaughter of W.G. and Lucy Canary Conner, a Tulia pioneer family.
Janet was never happier than when surrounded by children, dogs and cats, all of whom she loved unconditionally. As a young woman she opened her own pre-school since Tulia did not have one at the time. Later she received her B.A. in Education from West Texas State and taught Elementary school in Kress and Plainview, TX as well as adult GED and ESL classes at South Plains College, chosen one year as outstanding educator for the empathy, patience and understanding she showed to her students. A charter member of the Palo Duro DAR, Janet was an active member of First Methodist Church and previous member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tulia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lula Marjorie Miller and her brother, Mark Miller.

She is survived by her two children, Jenny Briones of Tulia and Adam Wright (Jennifer) of Rolette, North Dakota; twelve grandchildren, Matthew, Harley, Jonathan, Nicholas, Hillary, Luke, Sandy, Salena and Krystal Briones; Conner (Melody), Brennen, and Stephanie Wright; and eight great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Dale Ann Morgan of Waukesha, Wisconsin and many life-long friends.

Janet will be remembered for the tenacity and stubborn determination with which she battled ALS and for the humor she found in everyday life.  As she enjoyed saying, she was “raised with guilt and red Jell-O.”  The family would like to thank Audrie Vasquez who was Janet’s patient and loving caregiver (AKA her partner in crime) for the last six months of her life. She truly became Janet’s hands, feet and voice.

A celebration of her life will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 7th. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 6th at the funeral home.
