Janith Lea May (Plainview)

Janith “Jan” Lea May, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 84 on August 24, 2025. Funeral services will be held at Northwest Church of Christ in Plainview on Wednesday August 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Kerry Jones of Canyon officiating. Internment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery.

A visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM at the church.

Janith was born in Littlefield on August 6, 1941 to Vernor and Bernice Gregg. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1959. Janith married Gordon May on July 13, 1961 in Plainview and they recently celebrated 64 years together.

As expressed by anyone who knew Janith, she lived her life in service to the Lord. This was obvious in the way she loved and directed her family and lifted up those in need. Her family relied on her loving support, and in her eyes, there was no challenge impossible to overcome if they worked together. Truly, she was her family’s best friend, with her family extending to the many acquaintances she made during her life. We will all miss her gentle approach, kindness, and genuine love.

In addition to being a stay-at-home mom for many years, Janith worked as an administrative assistant at West Texas A&M University in the Office of Career Planning and Placement, and later at Rex Reeves Elementary School as an aide.

Janith is preceded in death by her parents, Vernor and Bernice Gregg and brother Johnny Gregg.

Janith is survived by her husband Gordon May; daughter LeAnn Thomason and husband Joe of McKinney, TX; son Randall May and wife Deborah of Goldsby, OK; and Ross May and wife Tawnya of Abernathy. She is also survived by eight loving grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
