Jerry Lee Johnson, a lover of Jesus, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, coach, and friend, passed away on June 11, 2026 at the age of 84. Born on September 30, 1941 in Hamilton, TX, he lived a life defined by compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome, whether through a quick piece of candy, an endearing squeeze of your neck, or a long conversation in the parking lot with just the perfect amount of wisdom laced within it.
Jerry was a devoted Little League Baseball coach who spent more than 20 years mentoring, encouraging, and shaping the lives of countless young men—many of whom still carry his influence with them today. Throughout his life, he was a dedicated truck driver, blessed with opportunities to own his own business, drive for Walmart, and build a career marked by hard work and integrity.
More than anything, Jerry will be remembered for the way he loved and served others. He invested countless hours in different programs like “Big Brothers Big Sisters”, Boy Scouts, and various church ministries. He had a gift for seeing people through the lens of Christ, treating everyone with kindness, compassion, and grace. His legacy of faith, service, and selfless love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sharon Carter Johnson of Plainview, TX; his brother and sister-in-law Tim and Sue Johnson of Plainview, TX; his son and daughter-in-law Jamie and DeShawna Johnson of Plainview, TX; his daughter and son-in-law, Tim and LaDonna Smith of Tulia, TX; his daughter Alecia Johnson of Plainview, TX; his six grandchildren, Haiden Johnson, Katelyn Garcia, Jace Johnson, Loren Johnson, Lacy Knoll, and Dillon Johnson; his 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, J.L. and Katie Johnson; his older brother and sister-in-law John and Margaret Johnson; and granddaughter Micaela McGuire.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in the gift of having known and loved Jerry. He will be deeply missed, cherished, and forever remembered. In the words of Papa Johnson, “Jesus loves you and the Johnsons’ do too.”
