A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 2:30 PM in the Happy Cemetery, Happy Texas. Jim's final ride will start at 2:00 P.M. in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church in Happy and we will proceed to the Happy Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Jim was born on November 15, 1946 in Amarillo, TX to Van and Dorothy (Hudson) Cope. He graduated from Happy High School in 1965. After graduating High School, he went to West Texas State University for a year, then married the love of his life Eddie Holland on June 10, 1967 in Miami, TX. Early in his adult life, he competed in rodeos then worked as a ranch hand for several ranchers including a ten year time with the Adams Ranch. Later, he owned his own business called the Rafter J Cattle Company which provided customized cattle care. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and collected Louis L’ Amour novels. Jim also enjoyed fishing and watching rodeos on the Cowboy Channel. His happiest times were spent along side other cowboys so he always looked forward to branding season. One of Jim’s proudest accomplishments was being voted Cowboy of the Year for Swisher County in 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents, Van Cope and Dorothy Stevens, his wife, Eddie Cope, his daughter, Jeffna Cox, and his sister, Marilyn Cope Raymond. He is survived by his daughter, Joda Crow and husband Greg, his son-in-law, Bruce Cox, his brothers-in-law, Brad Raymond and Rex Holland, his sister-in-law, Connie Holland, his grandchildren, Logan Crow and wife Greer, Catherine Crow, Jaycie Hendricks and husband Adam and Devin Cope.
