Canyon, Texas— Jim Kirkpatrick, 70, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 10:00 am in the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Steve Olson, officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

James Stewart Kirkpatrick, Jr. was born on June 3, 1951, in Tulia to Stewart Kirkpatrick, Sr. and Annabelle Barbour Kirkpatrick. He grew up in Tulia and attended schools in the Salem Community, Happy and Tulia. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1969. He attended Tyler Jr. College for one year then moved to Lubbock and attended Texas Tech. He married his high school sweetheart; Carolyn Weiser on December 26, 1970. They moved back to Tulia where he attended West Texas State College in Canyon and graduated in 1973. He farmed with his dad starting in 1974 until his dad passed away and continued farming until 2006. In 2008 they moved to Canyon. He worked part-time for Dietz Electric in Canyon for several years.

Jim loved to spend time with his family. He loved his wife, his three daughters, his three sons-in-law and his eight grandchildren who called him Pop-Pops. He loved to spend time in the New Mexico mountains trout fishing whenever he could.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law: Brent Matzen and Dale Starnes.

He is survived by his wife: Carolyn Kirkpatrick of Canyon, three daughters and sons-in-law: Sheila Price and husband Jason of Montgomery, Texas, Denise West and husband Joseph of Amarillo and Karla McCall and husband Andy of Abilene, his sister: Martha Matzen of Raton, New Mexico, his sister-in-law: Donna Starnes of Oakland, Tennessee, his eight grandchildren: Ethan Price, Audrey Price, April West, Amy West, Elizabeth Bezner and husband Chandler, Lauren Zuniga, Allison McCall, and James McCall and nieces, nephews and cousins.
