Jim Odom (Plainview)

Jimmy C. (Jim) Odom, 82, of Plainview passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022.  A visitation will be held from 2:30- 3:45 P.M. Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Kornerstone followed by a Graveside service at Parklawn Memorial Gardens at 4:00 P.M.  Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Jim was born on July 18, 1940 in Olustee, Oklahoma to Tom and Alberta Odom.  The Odom’s moved to Texas from Eldorado, OK in January of 1944 to Ropesville, Texas when Jim was 3 ½ years old.  Jim was raised on the farm.   Jim married his lovely wife June in Fort Sumter, New Mexico.

Jim was a gin man, farmer, grain elevator and a cattle man.  Jim accepted Christ and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Halfway, Quarterway, Edmonson, Dimmitt, Abernathy, and Plainview.  Jim went to work at Quarterway Gin for Rodney Heck in 1961 and later became manager until 1968,  He was the general manager of the Edmonson Co-op gin for two years.  He was manager of Brugel Brothers Gin and Elevator in the Dimmitt area for two years.  Jim and June bought White Gold Gin in Abernathy in 1971 and operated it until his retirement in 1993.  He was later asked to manage the Hale Center Gin for Bill, Steve and David Mason after a tragedy in the Mason family.  He was still involved with the Quarterway Gin until his death.  Jim was a member of the City of Abernathy Industrial Foundation and served as its President for many years.  He also served on the Hale County Appraisal District board for several years.  Jim was a member and past board member of the Texas Cotton Ginners Association and was also a member of the Texas Independent Ginners Association. 

Jim loved to travel with his wife June and his wonderful Good Sam Family, always wondering what was over the next hill.  He was a member of the Central Plains Good Sams, and was a past president.  Jim served as the Texas Good Sams Assistant Director for the Area 10 for ten years.  He was the inside coordinator for the Texas Good Sam Samborees (convention) for four years.  He was the coordinator for Area 10 Texas Good Sam Mini Rallies for twelve years. 

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Alberta Odom; and brothers, Jesse, Tommy, Billy, George Raymond, Donald; and sister, Juanita Pettiet.

Jim is survived by his wife June of Plainview; three children, Mike Odom and wife Duanna of Ransom Canyon, Dale Odom and wife Carrie of Shallowater, Keila Bost and her husband Tom of Midland; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Odom, Joyce Odom, Dottie Odom; brothers-in-law, Ben Pettiet, and Jim Bandy.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church Building Fund in Plainview.
