A funeral service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview with Westin Price and Tom Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Jimmy was born January 4, 1927 in Estelline, Texas to Eugene and Bertha Cornelius. He grew up in Avery, Texas and graduated from Avery High School in 1944. After graduation his family moved to Plainview. Because there wasn’t room for the whole family in the car, Jimmy hitchhiked to Plainview from East Texas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947, serving in Italy from December 1945 to December 1946. He married Maurine Borchardt on June 6, 1948. They farmed in the Bellview community southeast of Plainview until his retirement. They would have celebrated 73 years of marriage in June. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Terry Austin Cornelius; a brother, J.W. Cornelius; three sisters, Eugenia Willmon, Biff Hogan and Margie Cline. He is survived by his wife, Maurine; one sister, Barbara Sue Keily; three daughters, Anna Price and husband Joe, Linda Rice, Rhonda Abbott and husband Tony; one son, Jimmy W. Cornelius and wife Heidi; eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephew and many friends. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to your favorite charity.
