--Tulia, Texas-Joe Lynn Byrd, 75, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022, at 10:00 AM in the First Baptist Church with Mr. Keith Byrom and Mrs. Lee Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2022, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the funeral home in Tulia.
Joe was born on May 14, 1947, in Tulia to Wylie A. and Billie N. (Harrell) Byrd. He grew up in Tulia and attended Tulia Schools. He attended and graduated Ponca Military Academy in Ponca City, Oklahoma. All his life, Joe had a passion for farming and ranching. He took great pride in having the best looking cattle and crops. He loved teaching the younger generation how farm, ranch, and weld. He married Julie Ann Marburger in 1994 in Tulia. Joe and Julie loved to travel and spend his retirement time in Ruidoso, NM. Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and loved to play with his grandchildren. He was also a collector of antique cars. In 2022, Mr. Byrd was the recipient of the Pioneers Spirit Award for Swisher County. Joe lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger. He lit up every room he would walk in with his smile and laughter. He had a magnetic personality.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Don Adams, and his sister, Kylene Miller
He is survived by his wife: Julie Ann Byrd of Tulia; two sons: Dyle Byrd and wife Sharon of Austin and Wade Byrd and wife Anita of Amarillo, four daughters: Danette (Apple) Leathers and husband Nick of Amarillo, Denise (Peach) McMahan and husband Jared of Argyle, Brooklyn Cmerek of San Antonio and Tesla Flatt and husband Kolby of Tulia; his brother: Dan Byrd and wife Pat of Tulia, his sisters: Freva Adams, Wyla Miller and husband Ed and Dera Rousseau and husband Paul, and his brother-in-law: Ron Miller, all of Tulia, his grandchildren: Kailey Grady and husband Michael, Kade Byrd and wife Emily, Kyler Byrd, Collin Leathers, Jase Leathers, Jessie Byrd, Sloan McMahan, Sami McMahan, Jentry Flatt, Jaylen Joe Flatt and Judson Flatt, his great grandchildren: Kloie Grady and Brantley Grady.
The Byrd family would like to give their appreciation and thanks to the Hospice of the Southwest for their kindness, and loving care they provided for Joe.
