Joe Wood "Gran" was born on January 14, 1935, in Tulia, Texas. Joe Wood brightened the lives of many from an early age. After graduating from Tulia High School in 1953, he embarked on a beautiful journey alongside his beloved late wife, Mildred Mote, whom he married on January 14, 1956, at the First Baptist Church. Together, they created a life filled with memories and cherished moments.
For about fifteen years, Joe Wood and Mildred proudly owned and operated the Tulia Floral, a beloved local business. He was a dedicated farmer who had farmed in the same community his entire life. Joe Wood was known for his active participation in local events, his love for card games, 4-H leader for 60 years in livestock and horse club, FFA, and a member of the Swisher County Activities Association. His legacy lives on through the memories of those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by many.
Joe Wood was always delighted to capture moments for his family, ensuring he was present for his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's school events, rodeos, stock shows, and sports activities. He had a talent for spoiling them all, filling their lives with warmth and encouragement.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Edna Mote; his wife, Mildred "Mim" Mote, his daughter, Brenda Jo Mote; one brother Allen Eugene, and one sister, Lois Elaine.
He is survived by his sons, Forrest Mote and wife Dorinda of Amarillo, and Stanton Mote of Amarillo; a great niece of his beloved late wife, Libbie Reeves; his grandchildren, Khrissen Barbee and husband Justin, Shea Brown and husband JD, Kelvin Mote, Dalton Mote and wife Madilyn, Dillon Mote and wife Caitlin, and Tilly Mote; his great-grandchildren, Alexa Ryder and husband Donald, Summer Randol and husband Luke, Krese Barbee (Gran’s devoted helper these last few years), Mackenzie, and Ivy Brown.
Memorials may be made to Swisher County 4-H, 310 W Broadway Ave # 121 Tulia, TX 79088.
