John R. Harper, 75, of Tulia, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025 surrounded by his family. Services honoring John's life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
John was born on February 2, 1950, to Alvin and Joyce (Hodo) Harper. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1968 and soon after married the love of his life, Cindy McDowell, in 1969 in Tulia. Together, they created a beautiful life filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. John dedicated 21 years of his life to serving in the United States Air Force, where he earned the respect and admiration of his peers before retiring honorably as a Master Sergeant. His commitment to his country was matched only by his devotion to his family. He took immense joy in watching his grandchildren grow, often cheering them on at their sporting, band and theatre events with unwavering enthusiasm. An avid lover of the outdoors, John cherished trips to the mountains and enjoyed spending peaceful hours fishing. He had a particular fondness for western films, though he playfully insisted that Cindy join him in watching his favorite war movies. John's spirit was reflected in his delightful collection of various items, each holding a story and a memory.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Joyce Harper.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Harper of Tulia, his daughters, Kristie Harper of Tulia and Tia Becerra and husband Carlos of Tulia, his siblings, Nancy Russell and husband Wayne of White River Junction, Vermont, Harold Harper of Texas City, Texas and Linda Sims and husband Mike of Palo Pinto, Texas, four grandchildren, Brandilyn Hall and husband Ben, Robert Harper, Trey Becerra and Logan Becerra and three great grandchildren, Liam, Emery and Hadlee Hall.
