John Dee Walker, 72, of Plainview passed away on June 10, 2026. Visitation will be held at Kornerstone Funeral Director’s in Plainview, Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A celebration of life service is scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2026, 10:00 a.m. at Kornerstone.
John was born on May 24, 1954 in Lubbock, Texas to Robert Bruce Walker and Donna Duckworth Walker. The youngest of three children, John grew up in Plainview graduating from Plainview High School in 1972. Upon graduation, he went on to attend Stephen F. Austin State University, Odessa College and West Texas State University. It was at the WTSU Church of Christ Bible Chair that John met his future wife, Tara Wooten. They married in 1977 in Canyon, TX. They were blessed with two daughters, Kayla Renee in 1982 and Jana Lea in 1985.
John began his farming career in 1974 west of Plainview and worked until his retirement in 2024. He served as a deacon at 9th & Columbia Church of Christ and later attended Garland Street Church of Christ. He was a member of Plainview’s Hi-Plains Gem & Mineral Society. John was a man of few words, deep thoughts and a good listener. He valued his family and friends with unconditional love and support and was always ready to visit with a new acquaintance. He loved sharing pictures and updates on his six grandchildren. Over the years, John enjoyed playing racquetball, going to spin class, skiing with friends and going on motorcycle rides.
John is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Tara, his children; Kayla Voss and husband Dax of Lubbock, TX, Jana Guberud and husband Brian, of Arvada, CO., a brother, Ronnie Walker and wife, Sue Gable of Boise, ID, a sister, Carolyn Hance and husband Ed of Hempstead, TX, his grandchildren; Allie, Vanden and Vaughn Voss of Lubbock, TX, Mason, Owen and Warren Guberud of Arvada, CO.
The family suggests memorials be made to Plainview YMCA, 313 Ennis, Plainview, TX 79072 or Hale County Meals on Wheels, 1402 Borger, Plainview, TX 79072.
