Josepha "Josie" Gomez (Plainview)

Josepha “Josie” Gomez, 78, of Plainview passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025 in Plainview. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A come and go visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

Josie was born on October 5, 1946 to Gilberto and Aurelia Perez in Sunnyside, Washington. Josie attended Plainview High School and graduated in 1966. Her journey began during this time, where she distinguished herself as a candy striper, igniting a lifelong passion for caring for others. This passion led her to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, paving the way for a fulfilling career in health care. Over the years, Josie made significant contributions to the health of her community, working for the Health Department, High Plains Hospital, Nichols Hospital, and providing compassionate home health care. Her last position was at Wayland Baptist University, where she worked as the campus nurse. In the mid 80's, Josie was a dedicated Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church in Hale Center. Alongside her late husband, she embarked on numerous missionary trips, embodying her commitment to serving those in need both locally and abroad. Josie had a love for cats, often bringing in strays and caring for them.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Marquez Gomez, Sr.; one son, Albert Marquez Gomez, Jr.; parents, Gilberto C. Perez, Sr. and Aurelia R. Perez; four siblings, David Perez, Elia Madrigal, Gilberto Perez, Jr., and Rudy Perez.

Josie is survived by her son, Alfred Marquez Gomez; one brother, Gabriel Perez; five sisters, Angie Cavazos, Ester Castañeda, Elizabeth Hernandez, Alma Lydia Madrigal and Estela Martinez.
