Josephine “Jo” Lindeman Clark, 93, of Lakewood, CO, passed away in Plainview, TX, on Monday, February 27, 2023. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, March 3rd from 6 to 8 pm at Kornerstone Funeral Home in Plainview. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday March 7, 2023, at St Paul’s Community Church in Lakewood, CO, with Pastor Kim Simon officiating. Burial will be at Kress Cemetery at a later date.
Jo was born on May 25, 1929, on the family farm in Swisher County, TX. She was the 2nd child of Adolph and Pearlee (Burton) Lindeman and was soon joined by 6 other siblings. Jo attended Price school thru the 11th grade, then moved to Plainview to live with family friends Albert and Elsie Buhrkuhl. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1947. At the insistence of Elsie she went to nursing school at Lubbock Memorial Hospital and graduated as an RN in 1950. She joined the Air Force hoping to see the world, and ended up at Ellington AFB in Houston. She finished her service as a First Lieutenant – United States Air Force Nursing Corp, Ramey AFB Puerto Rico. Returning to Plainview she was employed at the Plainview Hospital as Medical Floor Supervisor and Assistant Director of Nurses. In 1964 she and Cindy moved to Denver, CO. She worked at Fort Logan Mental Health Center eventually moving to Jefferson County Mental Health Center until her retirement.
Jo was a care giver, always available to help family and friends. This compassionate nature opened doors to fabulous friendships wherever life took her, from neighbors down the block to stranded motorists encountered on her many journeys. Her home was a warm and welcoming sanctuary where you could always find a good cup of coffee, competitive card game, lively conversation, and sage advice – whether you wanted it or not.
She loved travel and had adventures around the world, including trips to Scotland, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Bali, Brazil, the Panama Canal, Israel (where she was baptized in the Jordan River), Canada, and Russia, just to mention a few. She was always up for a good road trip and put many miles on her big old Lincoln, carting nieces and nephews across the US from Four Corners to Florida and Mt. Rushmore to Maryland and making frequent trips to Texas to spend time with family for holiday traditions, like stuffing sausage at the farm or Christmas brunches with her cousins, or just to have a weekend back home. Her friends in Colorado noted she goes to Texas like most of us go to Wal-Mart.
Tuesdays were reserved for the Quilt Ladies. In 1991 they began meeting weekly and are still going strong. The day is filled with coffee, laughter, good food and some quilting. She loved this special circle of friends calling them her 2nd family. She also made lap robes for local nursing homes and quilts for the Linus Project at the Children’s Hospital.
Jo enjoyed golf and spent many weekends traveling Colorado to play. She continued to join friends for a Wednesday morning round until a broken hip stopped her at the age of 89.
Josephine is survived by her daughter Cindy Clark of Plainview, TX, her sister Barbara Bloxom of Santa Fe, NM, brothers Dale Lindeman and Herman Lindeman of Plainview, TX, brother Karl (Sheryl) Lindeman of Kress, TX, and nieces and nephews Jim Lindeman, Elaine Lindeman, Kevin Bloxom, Polly Horne, Dondi Walker, Cody Lindeman and Jason Lindeman.
She was preceded in death by her parents Adolph and Pearlee Lindeman, brothers Jimmie and AW Lindeman, sister Wanda Lindeman, and niece Jennifer Lindeman.
A special Thank You to Traditions Health and The Beehive for their loving care.
The family suggest memorial may be made to The Kress Cemetery, C/O Kress National Bank, PO Box 660, Kress, TX 79052
