Joyce Marie Alvis, 70, of Plainview passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview.

Joyce was born on September 12, 1950 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to David and Wanda Smith. She grew up in New Mexico and attended school there. She moved to Plainview in the early 1970’s and worked for Levi Strauss for a few years. She married Jerry Wayne Alvis on July 3, 1972. She worked as a cook at Plainview High School for many years. Joyce was a babysitter and took in so many family members and other kids not matter what. She loved to nurture people. She was a member of Seth Ward Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Gary Smith and a sister, Alice King.

She is survived by her three daughters, Tammy Bolding of Levelland, Paula Voyles and husband Scott of Plainview, Shelly Alvis of Plainview; two brothers, David Smith and wife Ann of Tucumcari, NM, Carl Smith of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Pat Evans and husband Tommy of San Jon, NM, Sheila Thorsen of Lubbock; four grandchildren, David Bolding and wife Pam of Levelland, Shana Jo Bolding of San Angelo, Jesse Samarripa and Madison Voyles, both of Plainview.
