Judy Kay Gunnels Love, 73, of Canyon passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 28 in the Tulia First Baptist Church with Mr. Rodney Weaver officiating and Deacon Jackie Gunnels assisting. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia, Texas under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
Judy was born on January 13, 1951, in Tulia to parents J.T. and Christine (Ewing) Gunnels. After graduating from Tulia High School in 1969, she married her best friend Danny Love Sr. in 1973 in Bovina, Texas. Judy devoted 30 years of her life to working at Atmos Energy in various locations before retiring in Amarillo. She was an active community member, serving on the Atmos Credit Union, Intercorp, Board for several years and acting as a secretary for the past six years. Her commitment extended to the Khiva Shrine, where she was deeply involved, and the Beta Sigma Fi Sorority in Canyon. Throughout her life, Judy and Danny shared many adventures, moving to different locations across the Panhandle and forming lasting friendships wherever they went. Judy’s love for her children and grandchildren was unparalleled, particularly when it came to cheering them on in their basketball games. Her warm presence brightened every room she entered, leaving all those she encountered feeling cherished. Judy was a dedicated member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Canyon, where her faith played a central role in her life. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She is preceded in death by her father, J.T Gunnels.
She is survived by her husband, Danny Love Sr., of Canyon, her Children, Danny Love Jr. and wife Regina of Canyon and James Love and wife Jami of Canyon and their children, J.T Love of Tulia, Carissa Love and husband Jose Nieto of Canyon, and Natalie Love of Canyon, her great granddaughter, Embrie Nieto, her mother, Christine Gunnels of Tulia, her siblings, Carol Connally and husband Doug of Amarillo and Jackie Gunnels and wife Brenda of Tulia, her nieces and nephews, Tricia Speed and husband Shane of Tulia, Cody Davis of Tulia, Jay Gunnels and wife Jocelyn of San Antonio and Brent Gunnels and wife Annette of Amarillo.
Memorials may be made to the Kirsten Simons Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Happy State Bank, PO Box 68, Happy, TX 79042.
