Julius Stevens (Tulia)

Julius Harold Stevens, 91, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 30, 2026 in the First Baptist Church with Mr. Bob Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at the funeral home.

Julius was born on September 5, 1934, in Daingerfield, Texas to Thomas Claude and Emma Smoak Stevens. He graduated from Memphis High School in 1953 and soon began a life rich with love, service, and a deep passion for the great outdoors.

On January 15, 1954, Julius married the love of his life, Peggy Spear, in a ceremony that blessed them with a partnership full of cherished memories. Together, they shared countless camping trips, where Julius's love for nature and family shone brightly. His appreciation for the outdoors was rivalled only by the love he felt for Peggy. Julius's heart bore the weight of Peggy's passing, a void that was a testament to their enduring bond.

Julius worked as a fireman and engineer for the Burlington Railroad before devoting 34 years of his life to serving as the Texas State Game Warden for Swisher and Briscoe counties. His commitment to his work reflected his love for the community, where he was known for his integrity and willingness to help others. A faithful member of the Tulia First Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon, sharing his faith with those around him.

His family recalls fondly the joy in his eyes during their final camping trip in April 2026, a reflection of a life lived fully and fearlessly amidst nature’s beauty.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Emma Stevens; his wife, Peggy Stevens; his brothers, Claude Edward Stevens and Willia Perry Stevens; his sister, Mildred Smith; and his grandchild, Egan Bennetson.

He is survived by his daughters, Kristie Bennetsen of Tulia and Leslie and Scott Ogle of Canyon; his brother, Donald Stevens; his grandchildren, Randa Kelley, Julie Hamilton and Erica Kirkland, Caulyn Cruger and Kaylie Cruger; his great grandchildren; Rowan Kelley, Emery Kirkland-Hamilton and Huxley Kirkland-Hamilton.
