Karl “Whiskers” Lindeman passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025. He was 82 years old. Visitation with the family will be Friday, August 22, 2025, from 5 to 7 PM at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, Texas. The funeral will be held at Kornerstone on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 4 PM with Dr. Kelly Warren officiating. Interment will follow in the Kress Cemetery.

Karl was born September 11, 1942, in Tulia, Texas. He was the youngest of Adolph and Pearlee (Burton) Lindeman’s eight children, and although he was the only one not born on the family farm, it and the surrounding community held his heart and focus throughout his life. Karl graduated from Kress High School, and just a few years later Uncle Sam sent him a draft notice. After basic training, he returned to Claytonville to marry his high school sweetheart Sheryl, who grew up on a farm right down the road. After the wedding they moved to Fort Benning, Georgia. In September 1965, Karl’s entire division was shipped to Vietnam. That was the first year he missed the family tradition of stuffing sausage at the holidays and celebrating Christmas at the farm with the family.

After he served his time in the Army, Karl and Sheryl moved to Plainview, where he discovered another lifelong passion – flying. He worked for Miller Flying Service and eventually gained a twin engine commercial rating, which came in handy flying around the country to pick up and deliver Bellanca airplanes. He also got into the crop-dusting business.

While the Army and flying made impacts, they couldn’t compete with the farm life. Karl returned to the Claytonville area in 1970 and committed to farming full time, first working with his father-in-law Hap Garner and brothers AW and Dale before ultimately buying the land where Sheryl grew up. He loved to grow things and was willing to branch out from typical crops, often remarking that the best thing about being a farmer was he was always “out standing in his field”. He also enjoyed helping others and building things, like cattle panels for Hap, engine crates for the motor room at Dulaney’s, farm implements with AW, and gadgets to help his granddaughters with insulators for the fence. This willingness to lend a hand often left him covered in grease or dust after working on a cotton stripper or tractor or crawling across a straw walker in the back of a combine. It also unlocked an opportunity for Karl to spend time on the turnrow visiting with his neighbors, which in his mind included everyone. When tragedy struck and Jennifer was paralyzed, those same neighbors took care of the farm and allowed Karl and Sheryl to spend time at the hospital with Jennifer. His presence helped her heal and get home, where he would greet her each day with a “good morning sunshine”. His idea of a great time was sitting on the front porch with a glass of tea watching the world go by and sharing stories with friends, family, and anyone willing to listen. His wit and wisdom will be greatly missed...and everything.

He is survived by his wife Sheryl, son Jason and wife Clara of Lubbock, granddaughters Infinity Lindeman of Missoula, Montana, and Shylee Lindeman of Denton, Texas, his sister Barbara Bloxom of Phoenix, Arizona, and nieces and nephews Jim Lindeman, Cindy Clark, Elaine Lindeman, Kevin Bloxom, Polly Horne, and Dondi Walker.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Pearlee Lindeman, daughter Jennifer Lindeman, brothers Jimmie, AW, Dale, and Herman Lindeman, sisters Wanda Lindeman and Josephine Lindeman Clark, and nephew Cody Lindeman.
