LaVada Ann Gray Waters, 84, of Lubbock passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 19, 2024 at the Canyon First Assembly of God with Rev. Janice Middaugh officiating. A private burial service will be held at a later date. LaVada was born on August 7, 1939 in Crowell, Texas to Freddie “Doc” and Annie Myrtle (Jones) Gray. She graduated from Tulia High School in 1956. She married Tom Akins in 1958 and later married Glenn Waters in 1993. She attended (SAGC) Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas. LaVada loved music. She and her husband Glenn were members of the Western Swing and Blue Grass Association. She enjoyed traveling, especially cruising. LaVada was an activities director for several nursing facilities for many years. She loved college basketball, playing cards and dominoes. Anyone that knew her, knew how much she loved her Dr. Pepper and sweet tea. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Waters, her parents, her brother, Ray Vance Gray and her sister, Gaye Nell Bonds. She is survived by her children, Alan Akins and wife Laurie of Amarillo, Kevin Akins and wife Kendra of Elk City, OK., Damon Akins and wife Stacy of Dumas, TX and Tori Mitchell and husband Rick of Lubbock, TX., twelve grandchildren, Colby, Ben, Shonda, Tony, Keith, Kristi, Matthew, Dugan, Margaret, Bethannie, Samuel and Cooper, thirteen great grandchildren, her sister, Thena Edwards of Amarillo, her special brother-in-law, Kenneth “Skeet” Bonds, several nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
