Leonel Rubio Sosa (Tulia)

Leonel Rubio Sosa passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the age of 88. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Happy, Texas with Father Alvin Tshuma officiating with burial following at Happy Cemetery, Happy, Texas.

A viewing will be held at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2026 in the Kornerstone Chapel.

Leonel was born on December 1, 1937 in Pecos, TX to David and Francisca (Rubio) Sosa. Leonel dedicated many years of hard work to the community, working in both the Tulia and Happy Feedlots, and later spending 22 years working in Happy High School in Happy, Texas. He was well known around town for walking his beloved dog, Fido, throughout Happy.

Leonel enjoyed watching western movies, Dallas Cowboys football, and novelas. He found joy in simple moments, and cherished time spent with family.

He is survived by his children: MaryAnn Sosa; Lionel Sosa Jr. (Sheila); Francis Farfan (Javier); Betty Sosa (Van); Jesse Sosa (Rachelle); Susana Garza; Carlos Sosa (Tania); and Paul Sosa II; his sisters Luisa Rodriguez, Delia Chapa, and Irene Martinez, and his brother David Sosa Jr.; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Sosa and Francisca Rubio Sosa; his wife, Paula "Chita" Sosa; his brother Samuel Sosa, and his sister Rosa Galan.

The family suggest flowers be sent to the funeral home at 201 W. Broadway, Tulia, Texas 79088.
