Obituary

Lois Ann Potts, 85, of Dimmitt, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 18,2026. Service arrangements are pending at this time.

Lois was born on August 3, 1940, in Missouri to Chester L. Rhine and Bessie E. Gibbons Rhine. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Newhall, California, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1957. During that time, she met the love of her life, a young Army sergeant, Walter Marion Potts. The two were united in marriage on August 8, 1957, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, faith, and devotion to family. In 1961, Lois and Walter returned to Hollene, New Mexico, where they farmed and ranched alongside Walter’s father. It was there they built their home and raised their three children, creating a life centered around hard work, strong family values, and deep-rooted faith. Lois was a woman of quiet humility, often saying she had no special talents—but anyone who ever sat at her table knew otherwise. She was an exceptional cook, and her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and full plates. No one ever left her home hungry. She cherished life’s simple joys: a hot cup of coffee, heartfelt conversations, and time spent with those she loved most. After the passing of her beloved husband Walter in 2013, Lois later moved to Dimmitt, Texas, to be closer to family, where she continued to share her love, wisdom, and steady presence with those around her.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Walter Marion Potts; her daughter, Becky Roberson; her parents, Chester and Bessie Rhine; her sister and brother-in-law, Patsy J. Autrey and Ralph Autrey; and her sister, Peggy J. Rhine.

She is survived by her son, Billy Joe “BJ” Potts of Tulia, Texas; her daughter, Monia Ann Venhaus and husband Joel of Dimmitt, Texas; and her son-in-law, Todd Roberson and family of Rusk, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Logan and Whitney Potts (children Wylia, Quinn, and Whitt) of Lewistown, Montana; Abbie and Jon Fail (children Byron, Brinlee, and Bristyn) of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Charity Wilson of Amarillo, Texas; Dustin and Skyla Venhaus (children Troy, Bennett, and Grant) of Amarillo, Texas; and Coby and Brianda Venhaus (children Bryson and Madison) of Amarillo, Texas. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law, Gayle Gray of Lubbock, Texas, and Betty and Bill Day of Goodyear, Arizona, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 629, Portales, NM 88130.
